Also, I was looking around at old Conan fan sites and this website http://members.tripod.com/latenightwithcob/ has a bunch of videos that work! A snippet of a Jon Stewart interview, Pimpbot 5000, staring contest with Andy, etc. :D

A Ray of Hope
This pertains a lot to [info]thecomedian's post about Conan leaving in February, and I know I'm probably breaking community rules by making a separate post, but I think this might make some feel better.

I've been getting the feeling lately, while watching Late Night, that Conan has lost some of the energy you can see in some of his early episodes.  Yeah, he laughs, and every once in a while you see that sparkle in his eyes, but, and it may just be me, there are moments where I register boredom.  Or, if it's not boredom, just...I don't know, he just has lost some of that enthusiasm.

I hope he doesn't change too much -- a red-headed Leno is the LAST thing we need -- but maybe this new challenge and break from his 15-year routine will help to re-energize him.

While I'm sad that this is the end of an era and that he's leaving NYC (LA just doesn't have the same FEEL), maybe something good (besides time slot) will come of this.

I'm mourning the end of Late Night, but looking forward optimistically to new possibilities.

- Mary Lou \\//

P.S. IMDb hasn't listed Conan as a writer for Late Night since 2007.  Is this right?  It would explain why Conan sometimes seems genuinely surprised by what he reads on the cue cards.

P.P.S. ALSO, on a different topic, I was listening to my local radio this morning; is Leno really going to jump over to ABC?  And what would this do to Conan's ratings, competing for older viewers with Leno, Letterman, and Colbert?  Does anyone know if Leno really is being forced out of NBC against his will?

*EDIT:  I AM NOT A LOS ANGELES-HATER, AND I DO NOT THINK NYC IS BETTER.  I JUST PREFER NYC, LIKE ONE PREFERS STRAWBERRIES OVER BLUEBERRIES.  And that is the last I'm going to say on the subject, because seriously, and I may have contributed to this through my tired crankiness of last night, but a simple statement of preference was turned into an all-out brawl assaulting my tolerance and knowledge of pop culture references.  All I wanted was to comment on something I've noticed in Conan lately, and not spark a cyber fist-fight.  I'm not gonna point fingers, because I probably didn't help the situation.  At all.  But I don't know if I'll post here for a while.

Conan ends in February
TV Guide:
This fall — some six months before his Late Night talker hits the airwaves — Jimmy Fallon will attempt a "soft launch" of the show, performing five- to 10-minute routines on an NBC online portal TBA. This unorthodox "dry run" is intended to let Fallon find his voice and rhythm and thus avoid the sort of pitfalls that plagued Conan O'Brien when he himself entered the late-night realm.

As for Conan, he is expected to cease production on his Late Night in February, then head west to prepare his take on The Tonight Show, which will premiere sometime in June — and from a brand-new stage now in production.

Fallon's Late Night is slated to hit NBC proper "sometime in the spring," giving him Leno as a lead-in for a brief stretch.

USA orders pilots and renews "In Plain Sight"

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The CIA, the operating room and the morgue will serve as settings for three drama pilots greenlit by USA, the network said Sunday.

The three new pilots, all with working titles:

-- "Covert Affairs," in which a CIA linguist is partnered with her ex-boyfriend.

-- "Operating Instructions," about an inner-city surgeon home from Iraq. Conan O'Brien is an executive producer.

-- "Stiffs," with a single father and body transporter for a morgue who solves crimes with his brother, a medical examiner.

Additionally, USA has renewed its new summer series "In Plain Sight" for a second season. Mary McCormack stars as a U.S. marshal in the witness protection program. USA also said that "Starter Wife," a new series based on USA's miniseries and the novel by Gigi Levangie Grazer and starring Debra Messing, will premiere October 10.

In other news, USA will celebrate the 100th episode of "Monk" on September 5 with nearly that many guest stars. The 100th episode show will include Eric McCormack, John Turturro, Howie Mandel, Sarah Silverman, Andy Richter, Brooke Adams and Sharon Lawrence, among others, many of them reprising guest roles on the detective series.

SPIN CITY

Well, I was kind of depressed the other day, so I went on an IMDb-aided Conan binge.  It led me not only to his appearance on Andy Richter Controls the Universe (it's in an episode called "Crazy in Rio"...if you have a chance to check it out on YouTube [if you haven't already] it's very..................yeah), but to the fact that he appeared in an episode of Spin City called "Dead Dog Talking."

I couldn't find it online, but it's apparently on FX next Wednesday at 12:00 PM and Thursday at 9:00 AM.

I'm assuming most of you have probably seen this...or, I'm hoping you have...how is it?  Sadly, I'm at work during both of those times, would anyone have the ability to record and post it?  My VCR died a while ago, and I still can't explain to my mom WHAT a DVR is, let alone get her to get one...

And if you haven't seen it, well, now you know when to watch!

Just thought I'd give you a heads up,

Mary Lou \\//

my boyfriend and i went to last nights taping of conan. we made a shirt that said "noches de pasion, Si, conando" which the people working there loved. we got great isle seats on the third row, just two seats. the one thing i do have to say about that show is john mccain is so much older in real life. and we had to wait a while too because he never got there till after the monologue, so we had to wait on makeup. =p
overall i was impressed with his interview and his ability to make fun of his age. =p and i've always had a huge respect for the max wineburg 7, but seeing them live and playing before the show, during breaks etc. made me have such a bigger respect for them as musicians!!
